Hollywood’s Role in Smoking
It’s become popular for the right wing conservatives to lobby against violence and other activities in Hollywood productions but Hollywood has had a role in our social development forever.
Recent news indicated that stars such as John Wayne, Spencer Tracy and Clark Gable were paid to promote smoking during Hollywood’s Golden Age. Details idicated that Actresses Carole Lombard, Barbara Stanwyck and Myrna Loy were all paid around $10,000 to assist in promoting brands such as tobacco. Did this lead to an increase in smokers among young people? You betcha says most experts.
Now George Burns, don’t tell me? Were you paid too?
